

Kenneth Earl Hastey, 77 of Mena, Arkansas passed away March 24, 2018 at his home. Kenneth was born in Rochester, Texas on Wednesday, September 11, 1940 to Linnie Virgil and Jesse Hastey.
Kenneth married Glenda LaRue Renfro on April 15, 1960 in Littlefield, Texas. He worked 10 years as a Troubleman for Southwestern Public Service Electric in Littlefield, Texas. They moved to Mena in 1970 and Kenneth worked another 32 years with SWEPCO in Mena. He also wired houses in Mena for Shorty Blake and Bob Philpot. He loved working with his hands and keeping his home in good shape. Always having a heart for people, he paid the electric bill of many customers who were unable to pay. Kenneth worked during storms many times in order for everyone to have power restored to their homes. He was a hard worker and dedicated to his job. Kenneth was active in athletics in school including football and his favorite, baseball. He later coached little league baseball for a number of years. Kenneth was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church for 40 years and then Christ Community Fellowship. He placed his trust in Christ at the age of 9. His greatest pleasure came from his family, especially his grandchildren. His grandchildren were the “light of his life” and he had nicknames for them all, and spent a lot of time with each one. He particularly enjoyed family and school reunions. He loved having coffee and visiting at Kess’ Corner and fishing for crappie and bass. He liked listening to Charlie Pride. During his life his kids remember him almost always being the first to stop at car accidents, always willing to help people. He never wanted anyone or anything to go hungry.
He was preceded in death by his parents Linnie Virgil and Jesse Hastey; his sister, Doris Vick and his brother, Doyle Hastey.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda Renfro Hastey of the home; sons and daughters in law, Ken and Doris Hastey and Keith and Alicia Hastey all of Mena; three grandsons, Kalen Hastey of Fayetteville, Liam Hastey and Kaielor Hastey, both of Mena, a granddaughter, Brooke Hastey of Mena; his sister, Imogene Merriott of Wamega, Kansas; his brother in law, Paul Renfro of San Antonio, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved very much and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March, 28, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Christ Community Fellowship with Dr. Lance Sawyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be general.
Pallbearers will be James Lawrence, John Smith, Philip Hensley, Steve Strother, Stan Chaney, and Paul Horn. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie Powell, Gregg Sirmon, Jeff Johnson, Larry Dunaway, Ivan Liles, Robert Quillin, and Bob Philpot.

Jay William Seaman age 61 of Grannis, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 in Grannis.
Jay was born on May 22, 1956 in Onida, South Dakota to Edward Seaman and Lois Ontjes Seaman. He was happily married to Linda Thomas Seaman. He worked as a truck driver and mechanic by profession and then sold truck parts for Bakers. Above all he loved God and his family especially anything his grandchildren were involved in, for they were his pride and joy. He loved playing the bass guitar and music for his church and family. Jay was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Linda Thomas Seaman of Grannis, Arkansas. Daughter Tina Kesterson and husband Travis of Grannis, Arkansas. Grandchildren Tessa, Ty, and Taylar Kesterson of Grannis, Arkansas. Siblings Jolene Depew and husband Doug of Navarre, Florida, Jerry Seaman and wife Wilma of Huron, South Dakota, Jim Seaman of Pierre, South Dakota, Jarvis Seaman and wife Mary Lou of Valley Center, Kansas, Janel Fye and husband Larry of Black Hawk, South Dakota, Julian Seaman and wife Roberta of Emporia, Kansas.
Numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lois Seaman, and a brother, John Seaman.
Memorial service will be Friday, April 6, 2018 at Cove Revival Center in Cove at 9:00 a.m. with Brother Reggie Fryar officiating under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Family and friends will have a Celebration of Jay’s life and are encouraged to bring instruments to play in honor of Mr. Seaman at Revival Center Fellowship Hall in Cove from 12:00-3:00 p.m. following his Memorial service.
William David Doughty, III age 80 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018 in Mena.
Mr. Doughty was born on December 15, 1937 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas to the late William David Doughty, Jr. and the late Vada McCord Doughty. He was married to the late Linda Doughty. Mr. Doughty proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After retiring from the military, he continued to work at Mena Regional Hospital as a purchasing manager. He was an active member of the NRA and Elks. Mr. Doughty was also active and supported, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Sheriff’s Ranches, and St. Jude’s. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. Mr. Doughty was a loving and thoughtful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by sons David Doughty and wife Pam of Beaufort, South Carolina Dalton Doughty and wife Lisa of Mena, Arkansas. Grandchildren Morgan Doughty, Ryan and Adrienne Doughty,, Robby and Amber Tillman, Nicole and Josh Fryar, Alyssa and Jeff Carter, William and Laura Doughty. On April 6, 2018, Wanda Rene Callahan, entered her heavenly home at the age of 78.
Wanda was born on June 24, 1939 in Goosecreek, Texas. She was the daughter of Robert E. and Violet I. (Moorehead) Whitaker. Wanda and Willard Callahan were united in marriage on April 7, 1966 in Baytown, Texas. She was a member of the Southside Church of God in Mena, Arkansas. Wanda enjoyed life on the farm, raking hay in the summers and driving in the mountains. She enjoyed working in her yard planting flowers and trees. Wanda enjoyed many types of music and would listen to that music for hours. In the last several years, she LOVED to watch FOX News all day. More than anything she loved her family and was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two great grandsons and one brother.
She leaves to continue her memory, her beloved husband of 52 years, Willard (Butch), of the home; two daughters, August May Medher and her husband, Tom, of Highlands, NC; Charlotte Blake and her husband, Derrick, of Watson, OK; three grandchildren, Jason Kiersey, Amber Ashby and Blane Blake; five great-grandchildren; one brother, C.E. Former Polk county resident Hazel L Columbus age 86 of Salinas, CA passed away Friday April 20, 2018. She was born February 15, 1932 to the late William Wesley Bryan and Clara Elizabeth Heath Bryan. She was a graduate from Acorn High School class of 1950. She was married to Michael A Columbus for 52 years.

William (Bill) Gutierrez, better known as “Cowboy”, age 75, of the Kiamichi Wilderness in Oklahoma and Mena, Arkansas went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the Little Rock VA Hospital. He was born on Thursday, August 27, 1942 to Bill and Patricia LaForge Sweet of Lawrence, Kansas.
Bill served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during his tour of duty. In 1964, Bill married Sherry Wilson and had two daughters, Lori and Linda. In 1977, Bill started his own A/C, heating and refrigeration business known as B-G Air Conditioning in Dallas, Texas. He was self-taught and was able to analyze and find a solution for any HVAC problem. Bill worked hard at his craft for 20 years and retired to the Kiamichi Wilderness. In 2015, Bill married Robin Lang and was a member of Christ Church at Mountain Fork, AR. Bill liked old country western music, tinkering on anything mechanical and making improvements on his cabin. He served as the Fire Chief for the Kiamichi Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years. He orchestrated the remodeling and building of the firehouse. He reconstructed two old army trucks to make an all-terrain truck that could maneuver through the woods. Bill also made improvements using his own equipment to the roads and trails for easier accessibility. Cowboy loved his little cabin in the woods and he called it his “little piece of Heaven”: Bill was a proud member of the American Legion and Polk County Honor Guard. Cowboy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Cassie Dyess and Trevor Barkley.
Bill is survived by his wife, Robin Lang of Mena, Arkansas; two daughters and sons in law, Lori and Durward Clem of Sachse, Texas and Linda and Terry Gass of Harmony, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Steve Gutierrez of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and Nick Gutierrez of Bradington, Florida; three sisters, Bonnie Vessels of Forsyth, Georgia, Patsy Peters of Macon, Georgia and Maria Gutierrez of Mason, Georgia; five grandchildren, Callie Dyess of Inman, South Carolina, Kayla Clem of Irving, Texas, Kaysie Clem of San Antonio, Texas, Nycole Smith of Butler, Pennsylvania and Stephanie Gass of New Sewickley, Pennsylvania; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Ryker Smith; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. William “Mike” Peek age 78 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 in Mena surrounded by family.
Mike was born on June 5, 1939 in DeQueen, Arkansas to the late William Loit Peek and the late Mary Dell Graves Peek. He was happily married to Patricia Gail Peek for 58 years. Mike was a partner of Hatfield Lumber Company for 40 years. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends and watching all kinds of sports. The highlight of his life was spending time with his family and friends. He was a thoughtful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to all.

Betty was born on May 12, 1938 in Norman, Arkansas to the late Elmer Lee Wilson and the late Jimmie Ruth Abernathy. She was married to Elijah C. Pate for 53 wonderful years. Betty enjoyed telling people about the Lord and would share His blessings. Never meeting a stranger to share Jesus’ love for all. God and family always guided her life and were the most important to her. Betty was a loving and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. She will be dearly missed.

Judy Caroline Rhodes age 65 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 in Mena.
Judy was born on June 7, 1952 in Mena, Arkansas to the late Leon May and the late Millie Johnston May. She was married to Bill Rhodes and was a thoughtful and loving homemaker. Judy and Bill loved to travel in the RV, enjoying the beautiful sights and just being together. She was a wonderful cook and liked to cook for family and friends. Most of all she loved spending time with grandchildren and family. Judy loved her dog and special companion, “Buddy.” She was a devoted wife, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by husband William “Bill” Rhodes of Mena, Arkansas. Her grandchildren, Ty Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Taylor Johnson. A sister Wilma Cunningham. Niece Cindy Dean; nephew Justin Whisenhunt, and a special friend Phyllis White.

Jerry Morton Dover, 85 died Thursday, May 24, 2018 in Mena. He was born to Delter (Dan) Dover and Viva Herring Dover on March 7, 1933 in Hatfield, Arkansas.Jerry worked many years as an engineer for Phillips Oil Co., Texas Instruments, and E-Systems. He was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying his own private planes. He was a longtime member of the local chapter of the Civil Air Patrol and was a veteran of the Korean War. Jerry also enjoyed astronomy and hand built several telescopes.
He had a beautiful voice and love to sing, especially to his grandchildren. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three children.
Jerry is survived by his Wife of 64 years Johnnie Frost Dover. His son Clifton Dover of Mena, Arkansas. Daughters Sabrina Stafford of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Diana Davis of Mena, Arkansas. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His sisters JoAnne Taylor of Oregon and Rachel Rooney of Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
Several nieces and nephews. Jerry loved his Savior and his family and will be missed.
His body was sent for cremation and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at Beasley Wood Chapel with military honors by the local VFW chapter. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Tommy Lee Woods, Jr. age 50 of Cove Arkansas passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in Cove.
Tommy was born in Batesville, Mississippi on November 7, 1967 to the late Tommy L. Woods Sr and Dorothy “Dot” Youmans Hooper. He was married to Patricia Bailey Woods. Tommy worked for Hatfield Lumber Company as a shop foreman and mechanic. He attended Cove First Baptist Church and loved going to church. Tommy enjoyed hot rods, fast boats and motorcycles, anything with a little speed. Above all he loved God and his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Tommy touched everyone he met and was loved by all. He will be forever and dearly missed.

Milton Martin Harned, age 87, of Mena, Arkansas passed away May 25, 2018 in Mena, Arkansas.
Milton was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on September 3, 1930 to the late Walter Thomas Harned and the late Jewell Miller Harned. He worked as a Machinist for many years. He loved NASCAR and greatly enjoyed good music. Some of his favorites were Elvis, Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins. Milton was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all.

She was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on December 15, 1931 to the late Cullis and Ada Humphreys. Dorothy was married to the late Gene Smith on December 20, 1949. She was a member of the Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Cove, Arkansas. Dorothy was a loving and thoughtful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great- grandmother, sister, and friend to all.
She is survived by her Son Ron Smith and wife Marvetta; Daughter Tonya Sharp and husband Don; Grandchildren Brock Whittington and wife Jaime, Bethany Nichols and husband Tony, Casey Smith, Nakia Bennett. Herman Glenn Bittle age 69 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
He was born on August 28, 1948 to Guy and Hazel Carr Bittle in Heber Springs, Akansas. Glenn was a member of the Church of Christ and served his country in the United States Army. He also drove a truck for 38 years.Glenn and his wife Vicki were married on December 3, 1977 in Mena, Arkansas. Above all Glenn loved God and his family. He was loving and thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and friend to all.

She was born January 12, 1918 to the late Thomas Houston Hicks and the late Melvina Willhite Hicks. She was a teacher by profession. Mrs. Hicks was the caretaker of the family. It made her happy to make sure others had what they needed even if it meant her doing without. She loved her family and church, being a member of the Pine Ridge Union Church. In the past, when she was able, she would prepare Sunday dinner for the preacher. She didn’t have any children or grandchildren of her own but was considered mother and grandmother to many. Mrs. Hicks was a loving Christian woman and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Melvina Hicks and her brothers and sisters Dora Howard, Kirby Hicks, George Hicks, Leona McBride, Gilbert Hicks, Wesley Hicks, Grace Chambers, Wilford Hicks, Glen Hicks and Clifford Hicks.
Funeral service were Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pine Ridge Union Church with Brother Randy Deramus officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Ridge Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation was Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. before the service at the Pine Ridge Union Church.
Pallbearers will be Travis Quinn, Derek Quinn, Colton Milam, Clayton Milam, Rodney Milam and Marty Taylor.
Carolyn Ann Copelin age 62 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 in Mena.
Carolyn was born May 01, 1956 in Ink, Arkansas to the late Ralph A. Holland and the late Lois Barton Holland. She was married to Stephen P. Copelin for forty-six happy years. Carolyn attended First Assembly of God Church. She worked for Louise Durham cafeteria for 37 years and was a wonderful cook and cake designer. Carolyn loved and enjoyed going camping and fishing with husband Steve. Above all she loved and treasured her family, more than herself. She was a loving wife, grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Stephen P. Copelin of Mena, Arkansas;
Adopted son Hayden Copelin of Mena, Arkansas; GrandchildColton Copelin of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Brother Jack Holland of Mena, Arkansas; close friends Thacker, Debbie Jeffcoat and Jo Williams.
She was preceded in death by her son Timothy P. Copelin, and her parents, Ralph and Lois Holland, and an infant brother, Owen Holland.
Funeral services were Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church. Interment followed in the Concord Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Family and friend’s visitation was Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Beasley-Wood.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Rand, Larry Rogers, Ronnie Spoon, Ken Hafferty, Mike Shaddon, London Copelin, Bobby Copelin and Justin Hensley.
Honorary pallbearer will be Charles “Smitty” Smith.
