

Jean Ann Anderson, age 82, of Mena, Arkansas died Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Mena Manor Skilled Nursing facility. She was born on Monday, June 22, 1936 to Westley J. and Jeanette Carlton Smith in Pittman, New Jersey.
Jean was of the Baptist faith and loved God and reading her Bible. She cherished her sons and was always filled with a zest for life. Jean was always on the go and absolutely loved to travel. She was very creative, writing poetry and some children books as well as beautiful oil paintings. Jean listened to country music and was said to be quite a dancer. She cared deeply for all the children of the world, as she was a very compassionate loving person. Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill Smith and John David Smith; and two sisters, Diane Mazziotto and Ruth Vockler.
Jean is survived by three sons and a daughter in law, Billie Clyde Jennings of Mena, David and Jodie Jennings of Mena, and Randall Dewayne Jennings of Texas; one brother, Bert Smith; four sisters, Emily Brandemart of West Stepford, New Jersey, Dottie Montauti of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, Joyce Hammel of Florida, and Vivian Kircher of Pittman, New Jersey; six grandchildren, Jessica Frey, Billie Jennings Jr., Karen Jennings, Brandy Dollarhyde, Christopher Sanders, and Heath Sanders; four great grandchildren, Taylor Gibson, Brock Smith, Bubba Dollarhyde, and Trinity Wright; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Jayme Renee Lambert Ozanich, age 47 lost her courageous battle with cancer Sunday, March 10, 2019 at her home in Mena.
She was born May 14, 1971 to Tony Lambert and Jan Carver. She was married to her best friend, Lanny Ozanich. Jayme was a loan officer for the Union Bank of Mena, First National Bank of Mena and did books for The Corner Store. She was a big sports fan and loved Razorback baseball and football. Jayme had a passion for life, and loved to travel and was always up for an adventure. She was a loyal friend and a loving wife, mother, step-mother, daughter, sister and “Aunt Nommie”. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed and always remembered.
She is survived by her husband, Lanny Ozanich of the home; a daughter, Hope Egger of Mena, Arkansas; step-sons: Ryan and Drey Ozanich of Mena, Arkansas and Josh Ozanich of Sebastopol, California; father, Tony Lambert and wife Jill of Wesley, Arkansas; mother, Jan Carver Puckett of Mena, Arkansas; mother and father

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at The Crossing Church in Mena with Brothers Don Henry and Alvin Rosson officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday evening, March 15th from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Delcie “Marie” Gibbons age 93 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Monday, March 11, 2019 in Mena.
Marie was born in Athens, Arkansas on February 7, 1926 to the late James Robert Burk and the late Georgia Kemp Burk. She was married to the late Fairol Gibbons for 63 years. Marie enjoyed reading her Bible, sewing quilts and raising a garden, also canning for her family and friends. She was awarded the President of Resident Council Club and won the “Sharpshooter” award in the nursing home. Above all she loved God and her family. Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and a friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, James Marcus Gibbons and wife Joyce of Cove, Arkansas; grandchildren: Leon Gibbons, Michele Roberts, Carl Wayne Gibbons, Rusty Gibbons and Brenda Gibbons; eleven great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; special friend, Kerry Tomlin; and many other friends from the Rich Mountain Nursing Home

Earl Dean Hughes age 68 of Norman, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
He was born on July 28, 1950 in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas to the late Raymond Hughes and the late Dixie Hensley Hughes. He was married to Lou Ann Belknap Hughes and was a machinist for U.S. Motors. Earl enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He treasured all his time spent with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him. He will be dearly missed by all.

Calvin V. Goforth Jr., age 36, of Mena, Arkansas died Saturday, March 9, 2019. He was born on Tuesday, February 8, 1983 to Calvin and Kathy Huff Goforth in Monahans, Texas.
C.J. was a Christian man and was passionate about helping people get to know God. He proudly served in the United States Army in Iraq as a specialist. He spent much of his adult life working on oil rigs as a derrick hand, motor man, and sometimes the assistant driller in Texas, Arkansas, and sometimes Oklahoma. C.J. loved his wife and family, and nothing was more important to him than their wellbeing. He was very proud of all his children and the people they were growing up to be. C.J. really liked sports and was an Alabama fan. He also really liked coaching different sports and getting involved with his children’s different sports teams. C.J. was always tinkering on something or looking for old coins and antiques, and he also liked to do abstract drawings when he had the time. He liked almost all music but was a true lover of Gospel. C.J. was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Rex Leo Burns, Jr. of Mena passed away Friday. March 15, 2019 in Mena, Arkansas .
Rex was born in Herrick, South Dakota on August 25, 1928 to Rex Leo Burns Sr. and Ima Grimm-Burns. Rex was married to Carol Huey- Bruns . He proudly served his country 26 years in the U.S. Navy and US Air Force. Rex was a Real Estate Agent and Broker; he ran a large hog operation in NE; he was well known for his animal farm near Acorn. He enjoyed telling his war stories, working outside, speeding in his Golf-cart and he loved his dogs Benton and Ludwig. Rex was always helping strangers and supporting his community. He was active in VFW Honor Guard, a Mason at Meadow MMo Lodge in Hatfield and Dallas Lodge in Mena. Rex also enjoyed traveling and squaring dancing and was very supported of all Military community organizations Above all he loved and enjoyed his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Gladys Thompson, 104, of Parks, Arkansas passed away March 15, 2019 at the Waldron Nursing Center. Gladys was born February 24, 1915 in Cedar Creek, Arkansas to Francis and Mary Elizabeth (Holly) Cook.
Gladys is survived by three children; Gordon Thompson of Parks, Arkansas, Gaylon Thompson and wife Esther of The Villages, Florida, Evelyn Johnson of Mena, Arkansas, three grandchildren; Christopher and wife Jennifer Thompson of Ridgedale, Missouri, Bridgett Vincent of Waldron, Arkansas, Tanya Bennett of Trinidad, Colorado, four great-grandchildren; Ethan Vincent, Lane Black, Hannah Gilmore and Hunter Thompson. Johnnie Wade Loyd age 61 of Grannis, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Mena.
Johnnie was born on March 06, 1958 in DeQueen, Arkansas to the late Arthur Loyd and the late Minnie Mae Heaton Loyd. He worked on the pipeland and hauled pulp wood as a profession. Johnnie enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors with family and friends. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren, who was the highlights of his life. He was a loving and kind father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by all.

Lynda Sue Wright, 79, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas passed away quietly on March 20, 2019.
She was born February 8, 1940 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to the late William and Thelma Edith (Rickard) McClemore. Lynda retired after caring for patients as a registered nurse for over fifty years. During that time, she helped deliver hundreds of babies in labor and delivery, was a medical/surgical nurse, and was director of nursing in Mena, Arkansas. Lynda loved spending time with her grandchildren and was their biggest fan at all their sporting activities. She was a huge Dallas Cowboy and Dallas Maverick fan. Lynda enjoyed crocheting and made beautiful afghans for her family. Spending time on Lake Ouachita with her family was a favorite pastime and hold memories that family will cherish forever. Lynda enjoyed reading her Kindle and watching television. She was a loving, dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who always put her family first.
Preceding Lynda in death are her husband of fifty-two years, Billy Leroy Wright; parents; and grandchildren: Renea Wright and Hope Christian Wright. Rowena Barr, age 72, of Mena, Arkansas, died, Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Arkansas Hospice Center in Hot Springs. She was born on Thursday, January 9, 1947 to Allen Gaston and Nancy Mary Jane Glass Parten in Nanafalia, Alabama.
Rowena was a Christian woman who always trusted in the Lord. She was a courageous and determined person that never faced an obstacle she would not overcome. Her family was always her number one priority and she loved them all unconditionally. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mena and taught Sunday school there and at previous churches for most of the past 45 years. Rowena was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, but her favorite role was Gammy to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and scores of other children. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Rowena is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James Parten, Allen Parten, Jr., and Earl Parten and one sister, Betty Story.
Rowena is survived by her husband of 54 years, Howard Barr of Mena; two sons, David Barr and special friend, Patti Tice of Centralia, Washington and Michael and Jessie Barr of Mena; her daughter, Shannon McCormick and special friends, Daniel Ashcraft of Vandervoort; her brother and sister in law, Ronald and Barbara Parten of Selma, Alabama; her sister and brother in law, Arline and Jamie Walker of Mena; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Interment will followed in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove, Arkansas. Visitation was held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 from 2-4 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena, Arkansas.

Paul Thomas Jones, age 54, of Mena, Arkansas died Sunday, March 24, 2019 at his home. He was born on Monday, December 28, 1964 to Thomas Lewis and Alice Marie Jones in South Bend, Indiana.
Paul was very friendly and could talk to anyone. He worked as a truck driver, construction worker as well as at Mazio’s in Oklahoma, Walmart in Mena, and for the Polk County Highway Department. Paul was proud of his children and loved all his family very much. He liked old country music, word games, game shows, computer games, fishing, camping, and deer hunting. Paul raised chickens and goats, and loved his dog, Shorty. He always enjoyed joking with friends and never turned down fried chicken from KFC. Paul was a loving fiancé, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his stepfather, Harold Dean Fields.

A gathering of family and friends took place Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at Lake Wilhelmina in Mena, Arkansas. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Mr. Chick was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Charles Russell Bates, age 75, of Ink, Arkansas died Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs. He was born on Monday, June 28, 1943 to James Russell and Marie Whisenhunt in Ink, Arkansas.
Charles was an avid outdoorsmen, spending time going and looking for arrowheads, going deer hunting and catching fish. He loved his family and spending time with them. Charles got great joy from his 1972 Candy Apple Red AMC Rebel Machine and picking his guitar and mandolin, playing music as Hillbilly Charlie the clown. Charles worked 34 years at US Motors before he retired. Charles was s a member of the Northside Church of Christ. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Tracy “Mudflap” Bates and his sister, Mary Lou Hobbs.
He is survived by his wife, Lula Bates of Ink; his daughter and son in law, Connie and Jay Gilchrist of Ink; two step sons and daughters in law, Michael and Amy Thurman of Norman, Oklahoma, Shawn and Brandi Thurman of Aurora, Missouri; four grandchildren, Justin Bates of Morrilton, Arkansas, Will Thurman of Norman, Oklahoma, Devin Thurman and Ashlyn Thurman of Aurora, Missouri; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 29, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. January 21, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel with Jeremy Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Six Mile Cemetery in Hatfield under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser family Funeral Home Chapel.
