Charles Eugene Hedges Sr.

Charles-Hedges-1Charles Eugene Hedges Sr., age 85, of Board Camp, Arkansas died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith.  He was born on Thursday, March 19, 1931 to Charles Elba and Thelma M. Bohlier Hedges in Pasco, Ohio.

Charles served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1964 having served during the Korean Conflict and was Honorably Discharged.  He attended Yocana Baptist Church.  Charles loved his family and spending time with his wife, Barbara.  He worked several years at Rockwell International as an Electronic Specialist in Cedar Rapids Iowa for 15 years.  In 2007, he and his wife moved to Board Camp to retire.  Charles enjoyed going canoeing, woodworking and hanging out at the Board Camp Fire Department.  Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

Charles is survived by, his wife, Barbara Hedges of Board Camp; five sons, Reverend Charles Hedges Jr, of Galena, Ohio, Steven of Dayton, Ohio, Joseph of Alabama, Loren of Dayton, Ohio and Raymond of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Kandy Ortgies of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Laura Comer of Dayton, Ohio; three brother, Philip of Lexington Kentucky, Robert Koeller of Fort Collins, Colorado and Noel Koeller of Ormand Beach Florida; two sisters, Darla Campbell of Dayton, Ohio and Karen Clary of Xenia, Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by, his parents and one brother, Dana Hedges.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Yocana Baptist Church with Brother Frank Gibson and Brother Lynn Chiles officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be general.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Board Camp Volunteer Fire Department, C/O Henry Hankins, 890 Polk 57, Mena, Arkansas 71953 or the Polk County Senior Center, P.O. Box 750, Mena, Arkansas 71953.

Charles-Kiser-1Charles F. Kiser, age 91, of Wickes, Arkansas died Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Mena Regional Health System.  He was born on Monday, December 29, 1924 to Earl Loyed and Wilda Ann Wheat Kiser in Nashoba, Oklahoma.

Charles served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1969 having served during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War with an Honorable Discharge.  In his early years, Charles enjoyed working on old cars.  Later in life, he enjoyed a quiet life having his morning coffee on the porch, caring for his animals and spending time with his family. Charles was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Katherine Wiley, Clint Kiser, and Carolyn Kisler.

Charles is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tim Genzel of Wickes; one son, Charles Kiser of Forestburg, Texas; two brothers, Cornell Kiser of Poteau, Oklahoma and Kenneth Kiser of Oxnard, California; five sisters, Charlott Guerien of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Virginia Dickerson of Plainview, Texas, Jean Camp of Poteau, Oklahoma, Josie Heflin of Wister, Oklahoma, and Sharon Allen of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Lynetta Knight of Cross Roads, Texas and Teresa Saathoff of San Antonio, Texas; six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Full Military Funeral Honors will be rendered Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home of Mena.  No visitation is planned.

Pate-Nora-papers-1Nora Faye “Mom” Pate, age 94, of Newhope, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016.

She was born July 22, 1921, in Burg, Arkansas, the daughter of Joel Ernest House and Martha Ida Pinkerton House.  On July 28, 1937, she was married to Nesbia “Pop” Pate who preceded her in death on June 26, 2003.  She was also preceded in death by, her parents; two daughters, Betty Jean Kelsay and Lisa Marie Pate; her son-in-law, Bobby Dan Kelsay; her granddaughter, Faith Pate; her great-grandson, Kaden Magar; her great-great-grandson, Rizin Lininger; her sister and brother-in-law, Winnie and Lonnie Matthews; and her sister-in-law, Alene House.

She was Pentecostal in her faith and attended Penuel Assembly of God Church in Hatfield.  A homemaker, she lovingly cared for her family.  She worked hard, alongside Pop, in their vegetable garden.  She loved canning, quilting, tending to her flowers and feeding the birds.

She is survived by, two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Steve White of Newhope and Glenda and Espye Magar of Mena; seven sons and six daughters-in-law, J. W. and Rozella Pate of Flatwoods, Kentucky, Elmer and Marcia Pate of Bluffton, Indiana, Ronnie and Sheila Pate of Delight, Von Pate of Pearcy, Darryl and Rita Pate of Lexington, Kentucky, Royce and Yvonne Pate of Athens and Boyce and DeAnna Pate of Newhope: twenty-four grandchildren; fifty-nine great-grandchildren; twenty great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Doyle and Shirley House of Fouke and Jack and Dorothea House of Dierks; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. Keith Russell and Bro. Don Vaughn officiating.

Visitation was Monday, 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

Interment was in Bissell Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Raymond Leonard “Bob” Tipton

Tipton-Raymond-pic-1Raymond Leonard “Bob” Tipton, age 76, of Cove, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2016, at his home.

He was born Sept.17, 1939, at Plunkettville, OK to the late William Odell Tipton and the late Ilene Mazure Perry Tipton Bissell. He was married to Joyce Hunter Tipton on May 24, 1958 at Hugo, OK. He was a truck driver for many years, a service tech for Tyson Foods, and a farmer and chicken grower for Tyson for 21 years.

Bob was a huge George Jones and Merle Haggard fan. He loved dancing, singing, riding motorcycles and looking at classic cars. He was blessed with a loving and caring family, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors are, wife, Joyce Hunter Tipton of Cove, AR; daughter, Kimberly Tipton DePriest and husband Ike of Cove, AR; grandchildren, Celeste DePriest Ashcraft and husband Davy of Mena, AR, Ryan Tipton and wife Amber of Mena, AR and Dwight DePriest of Hatfield, AR; great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Carmindy and Camilla Ashcraft of Mena, AR and Starla and Skyla Tipton of Mena, AR; brother, Ted Bissell of Mena, AR; cousin, Harold Tipton of Benton, AR

He was preceded in death by, his son, Randyll Tipton, paternal grandparents who partially raised him, Leonard and Beatrice Tipton; his maternal grandparents, Norman and Maude Perry; his father, William Odell Tipton; his mother, Ilene Mazure Bissell; his brother, Charles Tipton; his cousin Bill Tipton; his mother-in-law Stella Hunter; his sister-in-law Mary Hunter Tipton.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 5, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cove First Baptist Church with Bro. Ron Ladd officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Cove under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Wednesday night, May 4, 2016, at Beasley-Wood from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Danker Mize, Burt Nichols, Jasper Hartley, Rodney Hunter, Jeff Hunter, Kevin Smallwood, Danny Miner, Gary Miner.

Manitta Kay Foster

Manitta-Foster-Pic-1Manitta Kay Foster, age 76, of Mena, died Thursday, May 5, 2016 at her home.  She was born on Monday, November 20, 1939 to Rex Elno and Virginia May Ball Foster in Pontiac, Michigan.

Manitta was an accomplished potter with a beautiful, unique artistic sense of style.  She loved to travel and explore out of the way places.  She lived in many wonderful places including Michigan, California, Florida, Virginia, Washington, Alabama and Arkansas.  She loved nature and was especially drawn to water, rivers, lakes, oceans and the Gulf of Mexico.  She collected rocks from every place she visited and they all had a story to tell.  She proudly displayed them in her beautiful gardens which will now grace the gardens of her children and siblings.

Manitta is survived by, her six children, Bret Hammett of Michigan, Virginia Gerbino of California, Karen Quirk of Arkansas, Sally Swenson of Michigan, Zachary Bond of California and Sarah Bond of Texas; her siblings, Maureen Morril of Michigan, Mark Foster of Oregon, Melinda Braden of California, Mathew Foster of Arkansas and Melanie Bowles of Georgia; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by, her parents.

Per Mannita request, there will be no memorial service, but her ashes will be spread by her family at some of her favorite places all over the country. She was a gentle soul and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Cremation services have been entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

John-Davis-1Mr. John C. Davis, age 74, of Mena passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He was born May 2, 1942 to the late Harvey Davis and Letha Fagan Davis in Mena, Arkansas. John was happily married to Nita “Mickey” Cunningham Davis for 55 years. He enjoyed raising cattle and was a salesman for over 40 years until he retired from Frito Lay. John was very active in his community, volunteering at the Mena Train Depot and was a member of the First Christian Church and was a Free Mason. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and a good friend to everyone he met.  John will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Don Ray “Pappy” Milham

Don-Milham-1Don Ray “Pappy” Milham, age 80, of Mena passed away at his home Friday, May 13, 2016.

He was born in Old Dallas, Arkansas on September 1, 1935 to the late Ode C. Milham and the late Della R. Long Milham. He was happily married to Elizabeth JoAnn Burke Milham for many years and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked as a manager for Mena Arkla Gas Company until he retired. Don also retired from Mena Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed coon hunting, fly fishing and was an avid sports fan. He was a proud member of the Mena Bearcats1951 District Conference Champs, and was All State Defensive End. Don was an active member of the Dallas Avenue Baptist Church. Most of all he loved and enjoyed his family and friends.  He was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to all.

John W. “Sheriff” Samuel

Samuel-John-pic-1John W. “Sheriff” Samuel age 81, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He was born on March 1, 1935 in Beachton, Oklahoma to the late Lawrence Austin Samuel and the late Nora Cusher Samuel. John proudly served his country for 15 years in the United States Navy. Also was in the Landscaping profession for 30 years. He loved just being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and rodeo. One of the many things he was good at was “telling stories” to family and friends, which kept their interest. He was an avid Oklahoma Thunder and OU Sooner fan. Most of all he loved spending time with family and friends.  John was a loving brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him.  He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by, Brothers, Richard Samuel and wife Leona of Smithville, Oklahoma, Ray Samuel and wife Betty of Bixby, Oklahoma; 13 nieces and 8 nephews; Numerous great-nieces and great nephews and great- great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by, his parents, Lawrence and Nora Samuel; brothers, Lawrence W. Samuel, Raymond Samuel, Robert Samuel, and Randall Samuel.

Funeral service will be Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Beasley Wood Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Beachton Cemetery with Brother Ray Samuel officiating under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Family and friend’s visitation will be Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Beasley Wood Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Herman “Gene” Eugene Wenzel

Herman-Wenzel-Pic-1Herman “Gene” Eugene Wenzel, age 76, of Mena, Arkansas died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at his home in Mena.  He was born on Wednesday, August 30, 1939 to Herman Harold and Eunice Bessie Rhodes Wenzel in Nashville, Tennessee.

Gene was a graduate of North Little Rock High School class of 1957 and enjoyed going to his class reunions.  Gene served in the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged.  He also served his church for many years in the First United Methodist Church in Mena as an usher and a trustee.  Gene greatest passion in life was serving as a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America for 58 years.  He enjoyed every aspect of scouting and taking the boys on their yearly float trip to the Buffalo and White Rivers.  He retired from Rockwell International as an Electrical Engineer for 37 years before retiring to Mena.  He was involved in the Republican Party hosting the Mr. Rockefeller when he came to Mena to speak.  He enjoyed his HAM Radio.  Gene was known for his generous spirit, integrity, honesty, dependability, steadfast personality, and above all his love for the Lord and his love for his family.

Gene is survived by, his wife of 43 years, Johnnie Wenzel of Mena; his sons, Brad Wenzel of Dallas, Texas, Wayne Fletcher of Irving, Texas and Gene Fletcher of Billings, Montana; his daughter, Juanell Montoya of Kerens, Texas; one sister, Carol Smith of Great Bend, Kansas; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; eight nieces; nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by, his parents.

A celebration of Gene’s life will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Mena. Cremation services entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

Maria was born in New Boston, Texas on March 28, 1933 to the late James Henry Golihar and Evie Turner Golihar. She was married to the late Ray Jones and together they owned J Ray and Maria’s Mobile Homes Park in Mena, until her death. Maria was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mena. She was a loving and kind sister, aunt and special friend, and will be missed by all.

She is survived by, brother, Daniel J. Golihar and wife Margaret of Dallas, Texas; nieces, Claudia Parks Mitchell and husband Clay of New Port Richey, Florida, Sharon Golihar of Dallas, Texas, AnneMarie Golihar of Cleveland, Ohio, and Janet Womack of Houston, Texas; nephews, Michael Golihar and wife Charlotte of Forney, Texas, and Bobby Golihar of Arlington, Texas; and special friends

She was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 1, 1971, to Richard Stiman and Patricia Mittlesteadt. Kristie worked as a housekeeper at Queen Wilhelmina State Park. She was a good Godmother and a great aunt and (TT) to her nephews and nieces. Kristie was a loving and kind mother, daughter, sister, aunt and cousin. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by, son, John Bowers of Wisconsin;

June was born in Ludlow, Oklahoma on June 5, 1923 to the late William E. Patrick and the late Rachel Hilton Patrick. She was married to Floyd F.  Webb on May 6, 1945, who she loved dearly, for many happy years until his death.

June was a unique and special person that enjoyed many things in life. She loved helping her husband build houses. June also had a servant’s heart by teaching a Ladies Bible Classes and going to Bible lectureships.  She was always helping others. She had many hobbies such as, sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening, singing, traveling, camping and fishing with family and friends. Most of all, June loved and enjoyed her family and friends. She will be missed dearly.

Lewis-Billy-pic-1Billy Demaray Lewis age 70, of Pine Ridge, Arkansas went to be with his Lord at his home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren on Wednesday June 01, 2016.

He was born in Opal, Arkansas on September 3, 1945 to the late Bill Lewis and Lura Carter Lewis. Billy retired from U.S. Motors after 33 years and went on to drive a school bus for Oden School District for 15 years. Mr. Lewis was a Deacon of Little Hope Baptist Church and enjoyed playing his guitar at church with family. He was a member of the Pine Ridge Fire Department and a Gideon.  Billy was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He will dearly missed.

He is survived by, wife, Doris Lewis of Pine Ridge, Arkansas; son, Scooter Lewis and wife Misty of Pine Ridge, Arkansas; daughters, Lisa Myers and husband Russell of Mena, Arkansas, Dana Hunt and husband Tommy of Dardanelle, Arkansas, Stacy Kennedy and husband Andy of Pine Ridge, Arkansas; grandchildren, Savannah Todd and husband Robert, Talbot Dorrough, Candace Rowe and husband Kyle, Dalton Myers and wife Summer, Gabby Yarbough, Coby Kennedy and wife Ashley, Hannah Hunt, Dezeray Lewis, Shelbie Kennedy, Jeff Lewis, Brandon Lewis, and Matt Lewis; great-

He was preceded in death by, his parents, Bill and Lura Lewis; great-granddaughter, Victoria Grace Hunt; step-mother, Lillian Lewis; brothers, Doyle Lewis, Delbert Lewis, and Don Lewis, and nephews Jeff Lewis and JJ Ramsey.

Funeral service will be Friday, June 3, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at Little Hope Baptist Church in Pine Ridge, Arkansas with Brother Andy Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Sulpher Springs under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

A private family viewing at 5:30-6:00 p.m. for family.

Family and friend’s visitation will be Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood.

Howard Clark Wiley Jr.

In the early morning hours of May 9th, 2016, Howard Clark Wiley Jr., known to most as Howard Wiley and to his childhood friends as “HC” Wiley, departed from our presence in this life.

Howard was born, August 20, 1929, the son of Howard Clark Wiley and Louise Rye Wiley of Dierks, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by, both father and mother; and by, sister Joy Wiley Pellicciaro of Newark Deleware; and brother, George Wiley of Phoenix, Arizona.

Howard is mourned by, his wife Arleen Skiles Wiley of Mena, Arkansas, his sister Hazel Wiley Akimoto of Boston, his son Bryon Wiley of Kirkland, Arizona, Granddaughter Shauna Wiley Naefke of Alameda, California, Grandson Brook Wiley of Tempe, Arizona, and son Greg Wiley of Peoria, Arizona, and granddaughter Michelle Wiley Lauver of Phoenix, Arizona.

During his senior year of High School in Dierks, Howard joined the U.S. Army where he spent the next three years as a mechanic working on P51 Mustang airplanes. From there Howard joined the family in Dierks in moving to take up residence in Phoenix, Arizona, where a family business, Metal Products, was created, and from which Howard retired in 1985 after working there 33 years. Howard was an avid motorcyclist, having owned and ridden 35 various makes and models. He was a member of a Retreads and traveled throughout the US and Canada through the years with many friends made within that group. Howard was one of the “last of the good guys”, He could figure out, fix, make, and invent almost anything, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, at any time. He gave freely of himself. His soul was gentle, and the light of his love encompassed the earth and all life forms. Light and love to you Howard, Now, and Always Now. Namaste’

Natalie Shouse Wade, age 45, of Parks, AR passed away, Sunday, June 5, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital, Hot Springs, AR. She was born in Waukegen, III, July 2, 1970, to Gene Shouse and Pamela Sue Hogue. Natalie was married to Rodney Wade of Parks, AR. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by, husband, Rodney Wade of Parks, AR; daughter, Ashley of Parks, AR; son, Dwayne Andrew Gamble of OK; daughter, Leslie Dawn Hood of OK; step-son, Chase Wade; father, Gene Shouse of Mena, AR; mother, Pamela Sue Hogue of CA; step-mother, Barbara Wise of TN; sister, Gina Hogue of Cove, AR; nephew, Josh Baker of Board Camp, AR; niece, Kelsey Baker of Cove, AR, and niece, Hanna Baker of Cove, AR.

Natalie has nine step-sisters and brothers, Robert Grayburn, Michael Clary, Barbara Clary, John Clary, Patrick Jones, Vickie Kingsbury, William Wise, Brenda Navarro, and Angel Schabes. She had 16 nieces and nephews, 4 grandkids, Gracie Folk, Jeremiah Hood, Isabella Thibodeaux, and Bryson Gamble.

She was preceded in death by, daughter, Alexandria Gamble of OK.

Celebration of Natalie’s life was held on Wednesday, June 8th, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Mena Mountain Resort.


John Patrick McGuire

John-McGuire-1Mr. John Patrick McGuire, age 81, of Mena, Arkansas died surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, in Mena. John was born on November 16, 1934 to the late Claude T. McGuire and Edna Lane McGuire in Beaumont, Texas.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps as a teenager, later becoming a warrant officer, and retired as Captain McGuire after 20 years of dedicated service.

During his service in the Marines, John married his wife, Maria McGuire, in 1960 and had a wonderful and adventurous life with her for the last 56 years.  His unique interests and achievements included Golden Gloves boxing, scuba diving, aviation, and martial arts.   He attained his black belt in Goju-Ryu karate in Okinawa, Japan under the Master Seikichi Toguchi.

After John’s service, he worked hard as superintendent for Southern Construction in Little Rock, Arkansas.  He also became very active in the Marine Corps League, VFW, American Legion, and the Elks organization, eventually serving several terms as Grand Exalted Ruler of Lodge 781 in Mena.

John greatly enjoyed carpentry, farming and classical music.  Most of all he loved spending quality time with his family.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by wife, Maria Garza McGuire of Mena, Arkansas; sons, Judd Miguel McGuire and wife Joy of Shreveport, Louisiana, Mark Antonio McGuire of Bastrop, Texas; daughter, Ana Lisa Parsons and husband Stanley of Mena, Arkansas; grandchildren, Anthony Parsons and wife Sara, Emily Emerson and husband Adam, Hannah Winget and husband Alex, Ryan, Eric and Raegan McGuire; great-grandchildren, Hailey Emerson and Jack Parsons; brother, Bill McGuire and wife Nelda of Highland, Texas; sister, Nancy Mitchell of Katy, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Clifford McGuire and Dave McGuire.

Family and friends visitation will be Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Funeral service will be Friday, June 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood Chapel. Full Military Honors will be rendered in West Columbia, Texas Burial Site on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 3:00 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Phillip-Sloan-1Phillip Talley Sloan, age 66 of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016.  He was born on November 13, 1949 to Edna Talley Sloan and the late Kenneth Sloan in Kremmling, Colorado.  He served his country in the United States Navy from 1968-1972.  He was united in marriage to Donna Treece Sloan on November 4, 1978.  He was the county land surveyor for 37 years and he and his wife established Bethel Christian School in 2000.  He was an honorable, Godly man who loved his family and his community and gave of himself unselfishly.

He is survived by wife, Donna Sloan; mother, Edna Sloan; brother, Doug Sloan and wife Brenda; daughter, Amanda Baker and husband Dewayne; son, Chase and wife Alexa; grandchildren, Charles Webb and wife Elizabeth, Christopher Webb, Abigail Baker, Annalyse Baker and Rayven Grace Baker; great-granddaughter, Liberty Webb; nephews, Wes Hennings and Nathan Sloan; nieces, Alessa

Funeral services will be Monday, June 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m at the First Baptist Church in Mena with Rev. Justin Leonard, Rev. Mike Shaddon, and Rev. Paul DeHaan officiating.  Interment will follow at the Pinecrest Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.  Visitation will be Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Beasley Wood Funeral Home Chapel.

Verna Cunningham Pic-1Verna E. Cunningham, age 90, of Mena, died Tuesday June 7, 2016 at Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab.  She was born on Monday, December 28, 1925 to Zenith and Susie Isabel Purdue Patten in Half Way, Missouri.

Verna was a lady of integrity and honesty and lived her life as a Christian.  She always saw the good in people and helping them when they were in need and never met a stranger.  Verna loved her family and loved spending time with them.  She took great pride in her sons and was proud of each of them.  She enjoyed raising Iris’ and wildflowers in her flower beds.  Some of Verna’s hobbies were making stuff from anything left over and turn it into a treasure. Also she enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking.  Verna was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by, her parents; her husband, Dee Cunningham; one grandson, Vester Parks II.

Verna is survived by, three sons and daughters in law, Ves and Donna Parks of Mena, Ernal and Tena Cunningham of Mena and Jeff and Phyllis Cunningham of Mena; one brother, Curtis Patten and wife, Shirley of Medon, Tennessee; two sisters, Dola Head of Mena and Della Davis of Mena; four special young people in her life, Jean Ann, Greg, Linda and Sue; thirteen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with Brother Tim Rose officiating.  Interment will follow in the Old Dallas Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorial services were held June 12, 2016 for Ben Edward Redman, 51, of Roswell, New Mexico who died June 9.  He was born August 1, 1954 in Mena to Ben and Bette Ann Redman.  He was a graduate of Mena High School and the Spartan College of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK.  He was an accomplished pilot and an avid traveler.

He was preceded in death by, his father, Ben Alan Redman; maternal grandparents, Edward and Helen Watkins; and paternal grandparents, Dr. Pierre and Marjorie Redman. He is survived by, his wife, Lyn Redman, of the home; one son, Edward Redman of Tulsa, OK; mother and step-father, Bette Ann and Ken McRee of Mena; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jennie and Tom Kuhnke of Campbellsport, WI, Tracie and Teddy Bissell of Mena, and Suzanne and Randy Harris of Norman, OK; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A local memorial service will be held in Mena at a later date.
