Doug Doughty

dough-doughty-1Doug Doughty, age 55, of Mena, died Sunday, October 16, 2016 of a heart attack doing what he loved, riding horses and hunting in the Ouachita Mountains at Shady. He was born on Monday, September 18, 1961 to Bill and Linda Putman Doughty in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Doug loved the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. He loved to spoil his nieces and nephews because it brought him great joy. Doug was a jack-of-all-trades and was self-employed most of his life.  Doug was a member of the Little Hope Baptist Church and Rainbow Springs Hunting Club. Hunting and riding horses was a large part of Doug’s life and one year he scored a record Boone and Crockett Black Bear which was a proud moment in his life. Doug was a loving son, father, brother, uncle and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Linda Doughty.

Doug is survived by his father, Bill Doughty of Mena; daughter, Polly McBride of Houston, Texas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dalton and Lisa Doughty of Mena and David and Pam Doughty of Beaufort, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Dallas Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Andy Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Pallbearers will be Rick Foster, Tom Matejek, Jim Crowley, Travis Ross, Eddie Kennedy, Russell Myers, Steven Taylor and Kevin Campbell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Little Hope Baptist Church Youth fund 2997 Southside Road, Oden, Arkansas 71961.

Bobby Gene Thacker

bobby-thacker-1Bobby Gene Thacker, 64, of Hatfield, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at McLennan VA Hospital in Little Rock. He was born in Mena on December 21, 1951 to the late Lester and Goldie Allene Thacker. Bob was an ordained minister of the Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing his 12 string guitar and played with several gospel bands.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ruby; two daughters, Molly Allene Thacker and Cera Ley Thacker-Dooley; granddaughters, Alexis Ann Dooley and Ruby Fae DeWitt; brothers, Thomas, Leon and Rufus Thacker; sister Laverne Thompkins; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was preceded in death by brothers, Odell and Leroy, and his sister, Zelda.

alla-mae-cogburn-1Alla Mae Cogburn, age 95, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away in Mena, Arkansas on Friday, October 21, 2016.

She was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on the 16th of June 1921, to Joseph Clark and Eula McNeeley Clark.  She was married to the late Jesse Cogburn and worked at the Renova Shirt Factory as well as a homemaker most of her life.  She was an avid outdoorswoman, enjoying her time outdoors in Shady hunting and 4-wheeling, when she wasn’t quilting with the ladies!  She was first and foremost dedicated to her family and she and Jesse raised three children between Oregon, Indiana, and Arkansas, while Arkansas was always her favorite.  She most loved spending time with her family and friends, and she was, in turn as special to them, and will be so very missed.

She is survived by son, Jesse Cogburn, Jr. of Mena, Arkansas; daughter, Sharon Quillin and husband Robert of Mena, Arkansas; brother and sister, Don Clark and Shirley Clark; grandchildren, Patrick Gillean, Tami Parker Eakin, Toni Garrison, Marlena Parnell, Aldean Quillin, Tommie Rae Pate, Brandi Jacinto and Jay Quillin; great-grandchildren, Ashly Parker, Cory Parker, Bryan Garrison, Marlee Sheets, Carter Quillin, Peyton Quillin, Leo Jacinto, Alyssa Seals, Donovan Hunt, Shaela Monahan, Spencer Solomon, Harper Hunt, Nicki Yearian, and Brittany Quillin; and great-great-grandchildren, Jaden Benton, Azalon Benton, Avery Garrison, Jensen Sheets, Tucker Sheets, Zystin Garrison and Javon Garrison.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Eula Clark, her husband, Jesse Cogburn, Sr, a son, Larry Cogburn, a brother, Leroy Clark, three sisters, Bonnie Estus, Opal Cogburn and Eleanor Clark, and two infant Siblings.

Graveside services will be Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Victor Rowell officiating at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Earl Edwards Harvey

earl-harvey-1Earl Edwards Harvey, age 83, of Acorn, died Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Mena Regional Health System.  He was born on Thursday, October 12, 1933 to William Odus and Bertha Lee Edwards Harvey in Mena.

Earl was a man after God and knew that because He lives you can face tomorrow no matter the situations in life.  Earl loved his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He was a member of the Christ Community Fellowship in Mena.  Earl worked for US Motors for 20 years. Some of Earl’s hobbies were going hunting and camping, traveling, square dancing, playing cards and dominoes with his friends. Earl had the opportunity to go to New Orleans after Katrina and do disaster relief and here in Mena after the tornado in 2009.  He was very proud and honored to be able to service other in that way. Earl was a loving, compassionate husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Rocky Harvey; his daughter, Earlene Harvey; and grandson, Greg Harvey.

Earl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances Harvey of Acorn; his four sons and daughters in laws, Bill and Mary Harvey of Mena, Wayne and KarenAnn Harvey of Acorn, John and Debbie Harvey Russellville and Alan Harvey of Centralia, Missouri; daughter in law, Kay Harvey of Acorn; seventeen grandchildren; several great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 24, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lance Sawyer officiating.  Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park.  Visitation will be Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Pallbearers will be Charles Harvey, Mike Harvey, Mark Harvey, Zephrey Harvey, Tommy Kyle and Matthew Harvey.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Steve Phillips and Don Hall.

John Victor Allen

john-allen-1John Victor Allen, age 84, of Pine Ridge, died Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home.  He was born on Sunday, September 4, 1932 to Victor Brown and Catherine Cottrell Allen in Craig, Colorado.

John served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. John was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanne Allen; and his grandson, Nathan Bates.

John is survived by his two sons Doug Allen of Pine Ridge and John Allen of Mena; one daughter, Marilyn Shields of Pine Ridge; his brother, Len Allen of Parachute, Colorado; four grandchildren, Josh Carmack of Fayetteville, Alanah Allen of Hot Springs, Tiffany Crawford of Mena and Zach Bates of Texarkana, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside memorial services will be Friday, October 28, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Pine Ridge Cemetery with Brother Scott O’Rear officiating. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Benigno Ferro Francisco

benigno-francisco-1Benigno Ferro Francisco, age 81, of Mena, died Monday, October 24, 2016 at the St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs.  He was born on Tuesday, May 7, 1935 in Lima, Peru.

Benigno came to the United States at a very young age and settled in Allentown, Pennsylvania where he worked for Lucent Technology for 32 years.  After he retired, he and his wife, Melissa, moved to Acorn in 2001 to enjoy life.  He enjoyed playing soccer, watching boxing, and going to the Senior Center in Mena.  Benigno was a loving, compassionate husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Benigno is survived by his wife, Melissa Francisco of Mena; his daughter, Rosalinda Starling of Houston, Texas; one brother, Enrique Francisco of Waldron; two grandchildren, Riley and Lars Starling of Houston, Texas; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Stricklin was born March 2, 1943 in Mena, Arkansas to Calvin Stricklin and Sylvia Wilkinson Callahan. He worked as a lineman for a utility company, and enjoyed his road trips and sitting on the porch, talking and telling stories with his cousin, Larry Stricklin. Most of all he loved his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He will be missed.

He is survived by life partner, Nancy Richardson; son, Jeffrey Stricklin and wife Molly of Lake Charles, Louisiana; daughters, Dana Stricklin Rogers of Beaumont, Texas and Stefanie Leeann Stricklin of Lake Charles, Louisiana; grandchildren, Anthony Stricklin of Denham Springs, Louisiana, Amanda Stricklin of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Aimon Stricklin of Lake Charles, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Dallas, Austin, and John Anthony Stricklin; sisters, Jackie Goodman and husband Greg of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Sue Dailey and husband Dale of Houston, Texas, Joy DeCoy, Jenny Racy of Kansas; stepchildren, David Harris of Hatfield, Arkansas, Jeffrey Richardson and wife Trina of Wickes, Arkansas, Shannon Miller and husband Kenny of Hatfield, Arkansas; ten step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, November 1, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Six-Mile Cemetery in Hatfield with Sue Dailey and Larry Stricklin speaking under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Ruth Julia Sherman

ruth-sherman-1Ruth Julia Sherman, age 94, of Mena, died Monday, October 31, 2016 at the Oaks in Mena. She was born on Monday, March 6, 1922 to David Monroe and May Carter Beck in Alf, Arkansas.

Ruth loved and served the Lord with all her heart.  She was a pastor’s wife for over 50 years and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mena for over 30 years. She always wanted people to love the Lord and do what’s right.  Ruth was an excellent cook and enjoyed making her deviled eggs for church socials and her Lemon Take A Long Cake.  Some of her hobbies included sewing, gardening and playing games with her friends. Ruth was a Godly mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmett Sherman; daughter, Linda Sue Spoon; three brothers, Richard Beck, Raymond Beck, and D.M. Beck; and one sister, Rena Little.

Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Gwen Sherman of Nashville, Arkansas; son-in-law, Ronnie Spoon and wife, Betty of Hatfield; four grandchildren, Robby Sherman of England, Arkansas, Teri Morton of Little Rock, Ronnie Borin of Mena, and Tammie Wheless of Mena; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Larry Sherman, Brother Robby Sherman and Brother Allen Morton officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from12 p.m. till service time at 2:00 p.m. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Georgia Ann Strother

georgia-ann-strother-1Mrs. Georgia Ann Strother, age 71 of Ink, Arkansas passed away Monday, October 31, 2016 at home.

Mrs. Strother was born in Mena, Arkansas on July 10, 1945 to the late George Reeves and the late Elsie Walston Reeves. She met husband Bill Strother at the local rodeo arena and they were married on March 10, 1959. She worked at Aalfs Manufacturing for over 25 years and Polk County Courthouse in the Tax Collector’s office for 8 years. Most of all she loved her family dearly and didn’t miss a rodeo when a family member was involved. Georgia loved the Lord very much and often gave Bibles to family and friends.  She enjoyed farming and loved her animals, Oscar and Bullet. Georgia was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by husband of 57 years, Bill Strother; sons, George Strother and wife Colleen of Ink, Arkansas, Rick Strother and companion Deanne of Mena, Arkansas, Steve Strother and wife Liz of Mena, Arkansas, Billy Strother and wife Wendy of Mena, Arkansas; daughter, Darlene Enis and husband John of El Dorado, Arkansas; step-brother, John “Butch” Cusher and wife Gloria of Alexandra, Louisiana; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandsons, Tiny Terry, Ethan Hogan, Spur Strother; a brother, Gene Reeves; aunt, Joan Walston Moore; an infant brother; and step-father, John Cusher, Sr.

Graveside service will be Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Concord Cemetery in Ink at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Daryl Hines officiating under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

She was born in Mena, Arkansas on February 11, 1938 to the late Homer Hammond and Georgia Harris Hammond.  She was married to the late Roy C. Dobbs and was a loving homemaker.  First and foremost she loved taking care of her family. Mrs. Dobbs also enjoyed gardening and listening to old gospel music. She was a loving and kind mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her.  She will dearly be missed.

She is survived by sons, Dewayne Dobbs of Hatfield, Arkansas, Jason Dobbs of Hatfield, Arkansas; daughters, Cathy Fairless and husband Cecil of Hatfield, Arkansas, Rachel Roberts and husband Jerry of Nunley, Arkansas, Kristina Dobbs of Hatfield, Arkansas, Debbie Brady and husband Brent of Pottsville, Arkansas; grandchildren, Jessica Tilley, Heather Roberts, Coy Roberts, Mark Roberts, Craig Fairless, Marlana Skrypez and Tiffany Fairless; brothers, Richard Hammond and Leonard Hammond; sisters, Helen Pearson and Margie Heifner.

Funeral service will be Thursday, November 3, 2016,10:00 a.m. at Beasley Wood Chapel with Brother Brett Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery with Brother Ron Tilley officiating under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Michael Oneal Guinn

michael-guinn-1Michael Oneal Guinn, age 56, of Mena, died Sunday, October 30, 2016 at his home. He was born on Thursday, January 21, 1960 to Douglas Oneal and Vera Alean Posey Guinn in Mena.

Michael served the Lord and lived his life by the words in “Red”.  He was an active member at the Salem Baptist Church in Nunley, where he taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. He also enjoyed playing his guitar at church and studying God’s Word. Michael loved his family and spending time with his family and his constant canine companion, Dig Dog. Michael worked at the Mena Airport over 30 years but the last 15 or so he worked for Mena Aircraft Engines. Michael was a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Michael is survived by his son, Nicholas Guinn of Mena; his two daughters, Kaylynn Vaughn and husband, Joel of Mena and Lana Guinn of Mena; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Lonnie Womack of Hot Springs and Lila and Kelley Parker of Mena; his special friend and prayer partner, Lou Davis of Mena; his nephew, Austin Green of Mena; four grandchildren, Beaux, Payton, Terri Jo and Ferris Vaughn of Mena; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Salem Baptist Church at Nunley with Brother Andy Arnold and Brother Jack Schoeppey officiating. A private family interment will be at the Concord Cemetery in Ink under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.  Visitation will be Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 5-7 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Pallbearers will be Austin Green, Joel Vaughn, Seth Guinn, Kenny Posey, Kevin Spurgin, and Jason Posey.

Barbara Jean Murphy

Mrs. Murphy was born in DeQueen, Arkansas on May 21, 1950 to William Midkiff and Vera Rushing.  She was married to Charles Murphy for many years and was a homemaker.  Barbara enjoyed working on puzzles and most of all spending time with her family. She was a loving and kind wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.  She will be missed.

She is survived by husband, Charles Murphy of the home; sons, Travis Murphy of Vandervoort, Arkansas, Charles Murphy of Fordyce, Arkansas, Walter Murphy of Arkansas, Billy Dale Patterson of Texas; daughters, Nora Robinson of Cove, Arkansas, Deantha Gibbons of Cove, Arkansas; ten granddaughters and five grandsons; many great-grandchildren; father, Bill Midkiff of Kentucky; and mother, Vera Stewart of Texas.

Mrs. Murphy was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Diana Hamm Norton

She was born in Austin, TX and graduated from Round Rock High School.  She enjoyed the outdoors and shared that love with her Girl Scout Troop 6010, of which she was the leader for 3 years.  Diana was the owner of Norton Family Bees.  She was also a member of Old River Baptist Church.  She was a loving and kind wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by husband, Bryan E. Norton; children, Garrett Frankie of Austin, TX, Jeremy Yoder of Edgewater, FL, Kendall Sykes of Cove, TX; father, David Hamm of Cove, AR; mother, Rebecca Atkinson of Austin, TX; brothers, Anthony Hamm, Ryan Atkinson, Jeremy Atkinson; and numerous family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Loriane Johnson, and Dewey & Betty Hamm.

The funeral service will be at Beasley Wood Chapel, 611 Janssen Avenue, Mena, AR. 71953 on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at 6 Mile Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Bob Raymond

robert-raymond-1Bob Raymond, age 71, of Cove, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his home. He was born on Thursday, February 1, 1945 to Leslie John and Grace Elise Carpenter Raymond in Amarillo, Texas.

Bob served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970 during the Vietnam War being Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant. After the service he returned to work with his family on the farm in their construction company Raymond Construction in Cove. He was an excellent welder and over all mechanic. Bob loved hunting and fishing, making knives and reloading shells. Bob was of the Baptist faith. Bob was a loving brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Raymond.

Bob is survived by his two brothers, Vincent Raymond of Cove and Neal Raymond of Shamrock, Texas; one sister, Margaret McCandless of Canyon, Texas; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

There are no services scheduled at this time with cremation services entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Lonnie Ray Lawrence

Lonnie Ray Lawrence, age 55, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at his home.

He was born February 08, 1961 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Wallace Lawrence and Dena Deramus Lawrence.  Lonnie was married to the late Linda Lawrence and worked in the Pipeline Industry by profession. Lonnie enjoyed spending time outdoors admiring Gods creation. He also enjoyed spending time with family, hunting and exploring nature. Because of his faith in Jesus Christ, he is now breathing peacefully in the presence of God. Lonnie was a loving brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him.  He will be dearly missed by all.

He is survived by brothers, Cliff Lawrence of Douglas, Georgia and Jimmy Lawrence and wife Mayjal of Lockesburg, Arkansas; sister, Jeanette Kesterson of Nashville, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Sue Lawrence of Mena, Arkansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Lawrence; his parents, Wallace and Dena Lawrence; brother, Darrell Lawrence; and a sister, Gloria Jones.

Mr. Lawrence will be sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be planned at a later date.

Mr. Fred Grover Baker

fred-baker-1Mr. Fred Grover Baker, age 75, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, died Thursday, November 10, 2016, in De Queen Medical Center.

He was born January 13, 1941, in Haworth, Oklahoma to Ben and Ruby Baker. He was a carpenter, mechanic, and construction supervisor. He was also an active member of the First Baptist Church in Wickes.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; three brothers; and one great-grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Baker; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and JoAnn Baker of Grannis, Arkansas and Danny and Jenna Webb of Hurst, Texas; two daughters, Carla Hahn and Fredia Baker both of Texarkana, Texas; ten grandchildren, Brandon, Kyle, Justin, Amanda, Derek, Ashley, Kimberly, Megan, Aaron and Grayson; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Randall Baker of Vandervoort, Arkansas and Jimmy and Terry Baker of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins

Funeral services for Mr. Baker will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2016, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen, Arkansas with Bro. Scott Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the Eagletown Cemetery.

The family will be at the Baker home at 417 Hwy 278 E. in Wickes.

J.R. (“Jake”) Liles

jake-liles-1J.R. (“Jake”) Liles was born July 7, 1923, in Pine Ridge, Arkansas to Chester and Ollie Belle Liles. He passed from this life surrounded by his loving family on November 12, 2016, at Russellville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Russellville, Arkansas.

J.R. was an Army veteran of World War II where he served his country in the 124th Calvary from 1943-1946. While in service he received many awards and then received an Honorable Discharge. J.R. married the love of his life, Della Faye Deramus, on April 14, 1951, and they settled and raised a family in Waldron, Arkansas where they lived for over forty years. J.R. was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Russellville, Arkansas and a former member of the Waldron First Church of the Nazarene.

J.R. was a family man who loved spending time with his family and friends. Few things brought him more joy or smiles over the years than his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years J.R. had many occupations that included everything from hauling milk in Mena, Arkansas to a variety of auto sales in Waldron, Arkansas for many years and ended his careers as Deputy Sheriff for Scott County. All his life he loved cattle and horses whether it was working with them on his farm in Waldron, riding his horses, going to livestock auctions, or watching rodeos.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years Della Faye Liles; his children, Karen and Thomas Akin of Russellville, Arkansas, J. Robin and Catherine Liles of Painted Post, New York, Michelle and Josh Herron of Russellville, Arkansas, Corey and Misty Liles of Dardanelle, Arkansas; grandchildren, Kendra and Ben Jones of Little Rock, Arkansas, Jordan Liles and fiancée Kori Young, of Baltimore, Maryland, Andrew Liles of Painted Post, New York, Shane Oswald of Waldron, Arkansas, Hannah Fore of Russellville, Arkansas, Ruger Day and Corbin Liles of Dardanelle, Arkansas; and great-grandchildren, Lauren and Madeline Jones of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Allie Oswald; sister-in-law, Mae Dell Sikes of Cherry Hill, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Alan and Elaine Deramus of Lafayette, Louisiana; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends who loved him.

J.R. was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Watie Garmon, Inez Garmon; one brother, Ellis (Buck) Liles; and one daughter, Sandra Liles.

Pallbearers will be: David Sikes, Ben Jones, Jordan Liles, Andrew Liles, Shane Oswald, and Josh Herron.

Visitation and the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at the Waldron First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Wally Beckman officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 in Cherry Hill Cemetery, Cherry Hill, Arkansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherry Hill Cemetery or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas.

Mabel Nunn Hankins Ladd

mabel-ladd-1Mabel Nunn Hankins Ladd, age 91, of Mena, left this world Friday, November 11, 2016 at her home.  She was born on Thursday, August 20, 1925 to James Edmond and Ada Florence Cheeves Nunn in Winthrop, Arkansas.

Mabel loved life and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren in whom she truly admired and was very proud of.  Mabel was an active member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Mena for many years.  She loved her church family and her pastors.  She enjoyed all different types of music, singing, quilting and crocheting.  Mabel was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband of 47 years, Eugene Hankins and her second husband, Bobb Ladd; two daughters, Betty Smith and Linda Busch; five brothers, Arthur Nunn, Elbert Nunn, Mack Nunn, J.P. Nunn and Jesse Nunn and six sisters, Lillian Weaver, Beulah Whitehead, Evelyn McCain, Myrtle Palmer, Mildred Harvey, Polly Weemes and a special friend, Lou Flowers.

Mabel is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Donna Hankins and Jim and Debbie Hankins all of Mena; one daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Glen Wells of Mena; one sister, Lorene Eason of Wilder, Idaho; her son-in-law, Glen Busch of Mena; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 14, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Faith Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Tim Harper and Brother Dardanelle Townsley officiating.  Interment will follow in the White Oak Cemetery under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Pallbearers will be Joe Duran, James Hankins, Jefferey Davis, Tom Corbett, Bill Gibson and Rudy Yanez.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Glen Busch and John Flowers.

She was born in Hawthorne, California on May 22, 1952 to the late Marvel Cordell Bullock and Rosemary Bohlman.  She was married to Doyle Deramus and was a loving homemaker.

She is survived by husband, Doyle Deramus; sons, Chris Deramus and wife Jennifer and Josh Deramus; daughter, Christina Chambers and husband Laron Chambers; grandchildren, Caitlyn Chambers, Kaylee Chambers, and Alexis Deramus; brothers, Shelton Bohlman, Kent Bullock, Donald Bohlman, Fred Bohlman, and Roy Joe Bradley, Jr.; sisters, Debbie Roza, Row Stallings, and Patty Parker.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 12, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Acorn with Brother Floyd Folsom officiating. Interment will follow in the Cherry Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Family and friend’s visitation will be Friday, November 11, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood.

shirley-ogden-1Shirley Kay Ogden, age 81, of Mena, died Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Montgomery County Nursing Home in Mount Ida.  She was born on Friday, May 10, 1035 to Arthur Fredrick and Ruth Lorene Warren Struve in Olton, Texas.

Shirley was a person of integrity and a respecter of others in dealings with other people.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mena where she was very active in the church; also in the P.E.O. and a Board Member of the Son-Light Center.  Shirley loved life and her perfect day consisted of spending time with her family, playing Bridge, and ending the day on the golf course.  Shiurley loved her family and her children gave her great joy and pride in her life.  She enjoyed sewing, putting puzzles together, knitting and cooking for her family; she was known for her Christmas goodies she would make during that time.  Madge was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Arthur Struve.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 61 Years, Forrest Ogden of Mena; two sons and daughter in law, Steve Ogden of Gunnison, Colorado and Fred and Delilah Ogden of Mena; two daughters and sons in law, Ginger and Audrey Sterner of Mena and Janet and Jerry Gorden of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Marvelle Thorp of Tularosa, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Charmian Eigenman of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Stephen Ogden of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Matt Bingham of Dallas, Texas, Barbara Ramsey of Mena, Mandy Gorden and Ben Gorden of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Mena with Reverend Ann Ferris officiating.  Visitation will be Friday, November 18, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.  A private family burial will take place at the Pinecrest Cemetery under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her Bridge Ladies, Mary Jo Abernathy, Helen Dellinger, Isle Billingsley, Ida Pitchford, Paula Brotherton, Flora McChristian and Ruth Campbell.
